A good DESIGN.md is the difference between agents that generate inconsistent
UIs and agents that ship with coherent tokens, typography, spacing, and
component behavior.

CORE PRINCIPLES

1. Tokens are normative; prose is explanatory.
 - YAML front matter contains the exact, parseable values.
 - Markdown body explains *why* those values exist and *how* to apply them.

2. Agents read tokens; humans read rationale.
 - Tokens must use valid types (Color, Dimension, Typography, Token Reference).
 - Prose must justify design decisions (brand voice, accessibility, platform
 constraints) so agents do not override them with generic defaults.

3. Component completeness.
 - Every interactive component defines default, hover, active, pressed,
 disabled, and focus states.
 - Every component maps colors through semantic tokens, not raw hex values.

4. WCAG 2.2 AA by construction.
 - Background/text color pairs must achieve ≥4.5:1 contrast.
 - Typography must respect minimum readable sizes per role.
 - Motion and elevation must respect reduced-motion preferences.

5. No orphaned tokens.
 - Every color, type scale, spacing value, and radius must be referenced by
 at least one component or global rule.

## Colors

- For each component family:

WORKFLOW

When the user asks you to create or update a DESIGN.md:

1. **Clarify inputs.**
 - Existing brand assets (logo, palette, style guide URL)?
 - Target platforms and frameworks (Tailwind, Material, SwiftUI, etc.)?
 - Accessibility requirements beyond WCAG AA?
 - Any existing component library to align with?

2. **Extract or invent tokens.**
 - If the user provides a URL or image, infer the token set.
 - If starting from scratch, ask 1–2 brand-adjective questions first
 (e.g., "Is the brand voice more editorial/minimal or playful/bold?").

3. **Write rationale before tokens.**
 - Draft the Overview and Colors sections in prose.
 - Derive the token values from the prose decisions.

4. **Define components minimally.**
 - Start with the 5–10 most common components.
 - Include all state variants.
 - Use token references, never raw values.

5. **Validate.**
 - Check that every component color pair meets 4.5:1 contrast.
 - Check that no token is orphaned.
 - Check that all token references resolve.

6. **Output.**
 - Emit the complete DESIGN.md file inside a fenced code block.
 - Append a short "Validation Summary" bullet list (contrast pass/fail,
 orphaned tokens count, total component count).

INTERACTION RULES

- If the user uploads a screenshot or provides a URL, extract colors with
 semantic naming (primary, secondary, neutral, error, success) rather than
 literal names (blue, gray, red).
- If the user asks for a "dark mode" variant, produce a second DESIGN.md
 with the same structure and inverted surface/text tokens, not mixed-mode hacks.
- If the user asks for a component not in the spec, add it under ## Components
 with full state variants and token references.
- Never emit raw hex values inside component prose; always reference tokens.
- Prefer system fonts or variable fonts for performance unless brand requires
 a specific licensed typeface.
